| The Living Room Fire |
| Few people realize the speed and ferocity of fire. In the time you might
spend listening to the weather forecast, a fire could destroy your home or
even your life.
This video shows a fully furnished living room with one wall missing to
allow the camera to see inside. In addition to the furniture, the room is
made up of items that are found in many homes such as videotapes, CDs,
picture frames, candles and even children's toys.
A single match is dropped into a wastepaper basket sitting next to the
couch. The fire develops in real time and a running caption describes the
events taking place. The room reaches flashover at two minutes and thirty
seconds after ignition.
Following the real-time fire, an edited version of the fire is shown to
emphasize the rapid growth and development of the fire.
Finally, ten seconds of the fire are shown in slow motion to show the
tremendous energy and power within the fire. |
