UL's Annual Standards Program/Web-Delivery (ASP/WD) service is a custom service
designed to meet the particular and unique UL Standards needs of each
individual customer. ASP/WD service is a yearly service that provides all of a
subscribers Standards needs for a year at a fixed annual cost. If an ASP/WD
Subscriber needs additional Standards during the term of the annual service,
they simply notify UL of their needs. UL will provide the additional Standards
at no additional cost for the current year.
The ASP/WD service provides:
-
All reports of UL/Industry meetings
pertaining to the Standard.
-
All new and/or revised requirements issued for the Standard.
-
A new edition if issued.
- National differences document, as
applicable, for the Standards covered by the service, not including the 60065
or 60950 series.
- Access to UL's Collaborative Standards
Development System to review proposals and provide comments on the covered
Standards and/or Outlines.
The ASP/WD service provides UL's Standards materials in an Adobe Acrobat "PDF"
electronic file format that is delivered via the Internet.
The ASP/WD is intended for downloading of the covered UL Standards materials to
a subscriber's own internal Intranet or other internal, in-house system to be
accessed internally by the subscriber's staff for use only by the subscriber's
staff. The ASP/WD service is not intended for on-line viewing of Standards
materials via the Internet.
The ASP/WD consists of a CD-ROM containing the initial set of Adobe PDF files
for the UL Standards for Safety and Outlines of Investigation covered by the
program. When new and/or revised materials are issued for any of the Standards
or Outlines covered by the service, the subscriber will be notified of the new
material via an email. The material can be downloaded to the subscriber's
system by clicking a "hotlink" in the email. The email notification will be on
or before the date the documents are released by UL for public distribution
An ASP/WD subscriber will also have access to an on-line library containing all
of the Standards, Outlines, and proposals covered by the Annual Standards
Program/Web Delivery Service. This library is NOT intended for on-line viewing
of UL's Standards materials. The library is intended as a resource for the
subscriber in maintaining and, if necessary, in rebuilding their own internal
Intranet or other internal, in-house system. The library will allow an ASP/WD
subscriber two additional downloads of all UL Standards and Outlines of
Investigation, and related documents, covered by the service.
The Annual Standards Program/Web Delivery Service is intended for downloading of
the covered UL Standards materials to a subscribers internal Intranet or other
internal, in-house system to be accessed internally by the subscriber's staff
for use only by the subscriber's staff. The ASP/WD service is NOT intended for
on-line viewing of Standards materials via the Internet. For travel purposes,
copies of Adobe PDF files may be temporally loaded on a laptop computer.
Printed copies of UL Standards for Safety are not covered by ASP/WD. Printed
copies of UL Standards will have to be purchased from comm 2000 (http://
www.comm-2000.com)
Hard copies of a Standard, Outline, or bulletin may be made up to the number of
simultaneous, concurrent users the service covers. An employee of the
subscriber can make a copy of the page or pages being viewed for their own fair
and/or practical internal use. Because of differences in the
computer/software/printer setup used by UL and those of the Annual Standards
Program/Web Delivery Service purchasers, the printed copy obtained by a
purchaser may not look exactly like the on-line screen view or the printed
Standard.
The Benefits of Subscribing to UL's ASP/WD Service:
-
Most subscribers to UL's three-year Standards Subscription Services have
purchased this service for more than one Standard, resulting in numerous
payments and renewals. The ASP/WD is a yearly service that will provide all of
a subscriber's Standards needs for a year at a fixed annual cost with one
single payment.
-
If a subscriber needs additional Standards during the one-year term of the
annual service, they simply notify UL of their needs. UL will provide the
additional Standards at no additional cost for the current year.
-
The ASP/WD allows a subscriber active participation in the Standards
development process of the UL Standards to which they subscribe. The subscriber
will be able to review and comment on UL proposals for new or revised
requirements...before the requirements are adopted by UL . Upon receipt, a
subscriber's comments will be reviewed by UL Standards and Conformity
Assessment Services staff and followed up with a reply. The reply will specify
the action taken on the subscriber's comments.
-
The ASP/WD keeps the subscriber informed of all the latest, up-to-date
requirements that have been adopted for the products covered by the UL
Standards to which they subscribe. As soon as they are issued, the subscriber
will receive the complete set of revision pages or adoption bulletins. In
addition, if a new edition is published during the term of the subscription,
the subscriber will receive the complete new edition.
-
As an ASP/WD subscription allows the subscriber to participate in the Standards
development process of the UL Standard to which they subscribe, the subscriber
is aware of the need for possible product changes and a possible product review
before new and/or revised requirements are adopted, and before UL initiates its
own review program to determine compliance with the new or revised
requirements.
-
When developing a new product or when considering changes for existing
products, an ASP/WD subscription will give your Engineering and Manufacturing
staff access to the latest requirements adopted for that standard, and access
to the changes being proposed for that Standard that COULD be adopted in the
future.
-
If your company's operations demand that you keep informed about UL's Standards
development activities and the changes in UL's requirements for the products
your company makes or uses, you should subscribe to the ASP/WD for the
Standards covering these products, so that you will not miss any of the
material issued for these Standards.
-
The ASP/WD provides immediate delivery of and access to new standards
materials, bulletins, and announcements, and a reduction of delivery times of
up to 3 weeks for some locations.
-
After Oct. 29, 2004, UL's Collaborative Standards Development System will allow participants in the
development process to access proposals and provide comments in an on-line,
user-friendly, internet based system accessible 24/7.
An ASP/WD subscriber will be notified at least 60 days before their yearly
service is to expire, and given an opportunity to renew their subscription. In
this way, it is unlikely subscribers will miss any material issued for the
Standard to which they subscribed. The renewal notification will also include
the cost of the service for the next year.
The cost of the ASP/WD is based on the specific Standards and Outlines of
Investigation to be covered by the service, and the number of multiple
simultaneous users that will access these materials.
